Nominated for Victorian Multicultural Award for Excellence

Victorian Multicultural Awards for Excellence recognise the outstanding achievements of people and organisations who strengthen multiculturalism across 15 categories. Asian Australian Volunteers(AAV) was nominated for the category Community Response and Recovery of this year.

The Multicultural Award for Excellence in Community Response and Recovery recognises people, groups or organisations that have directly supported multicultural communities impacted by a crisis, or people, groups or organisations of diverse backgrounds that have volunteered to support crisis response and recovery efforts in Victoria.

AAV aims to help local communities (especially those vulnerable and disadvantaged groups and those with CALD backgrounds), support people who are facing either financial or mental health issues, protect environment and contribute to sustainable development.

In 2020 as early as COVID-19 started to spread in Australia, AAV donated PPEs including medical masks, goggles, face shields and hand sanitisers to frontline healthcare workers. They helped directly approx. 120 doctors and nurses and donated $1,000 each to three local Victorian hospitals.

Thanks to the PRMC funding from Department of Families, Fairness and Housing of Victorian Government, AAV reached out and supported wider community with foods, emergency relief goods and culturally appropriate services like mental health support, coronavirus and vaccination information package and sessions.

Cheers for the great achievements AAV has gained. Keep it up!
